As a new but fastly growing phenomenon slum tourism in the Global South can be an efficient tool for fighting poverty. However, due to its ethical concerns there are different opinions about the practice of "slumming", as it can place the slum inhabitants as objects of gazement, a humiliating situation. According to her own observations and experiences in the slums of Dhaka Graf, M. tries to show the positives of ethically fair organized slum tours by focusing on the role of the slum dwellers at the encounter with tourists.

Maria Graf, 22.05.1991, graduated from FH Joanneum with a Bachelor degree in "Health Management in Tourism". Since 2013 she studies the Master programme for "International Health & Social Management" at the Management Center Innsbruck.
