Pollution is one of the burning issues of the present century and it has to be mitigated for the welfare of both present as well as future generation. Some studies acclaimed that pollution and economic growth keeps a direct relationship. This invites a question: what should be the optimum level of economic growth? However, EKC hypothesis suggests that after reaching a certain stage of economic growth, environmental pollution takes downward phase. Having this background, what will be the normative aspects centring a particular industry? The book thus deals with several conceptual issues regarding industry environment and society relationship including a case study of a paper mill. Under the case study an attempt has been made to investigate socio-economic and environmental impact of the concerned paper mill in terms of environment, health, property value, quality of life and net-socio-economic benefit. The work is based on suitable methodology which is easy to understand. It is firmly believed that the book would help the researcher concerning with area of industry-environment relationship and general readers also find interest with the contents of the book.

Dr. Sujoy Das (1984 b) is a guest faculty in the Assam University. He received his B.A. from Karimgonj College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Assam University. He keeps research interest in the field of environmental and development economics. A half dozen research publications in the reputed national journals are attached with his name.
