Over the last 50 years, gentrification has been studied in the context of many large cities across the globe. In the past, gentrification was generally observed only in large metropolitan cities such as New York, San Francisco, London and Amsterdam. However more recently gentrification has been explored in smaller cities as well. This book is based on the findings of a bachelor thesis about the effects of gentrification on local residents of Katendrecht, a gentrified neighbourhood in Rotterdam. This study begins by describing the main theories regarding gentrification and its causes. Then it gives a detailed account of the effects of gentrification and how these effects are perceived by the residents. The perception of the residents is based on qualitative interviews. The general findings indicate that the residents of Katendrecht are open towards and welcome gentrification in their neighborhood.
