This book is based on eighteen months of cross sectional descriptive study on how parents/caretakers manage childhood burns and falls in the New Juaben Municipality of Ghana. The book explains that parents/caretakers socio-economic background and the physical environment in which they live predispose children to burns and falls and that children living with parents/caretakers who are extremely poor (living below the daily minimum wage of GH_ 5.24 per day as at July, 2013) are found to be 18.9 times more likely to be victims of burns compared to those who live above the daily minimum wage. This book further describes the complexities involved in home-based treatment and preventive practices for such childhood mishaps. The author advocates that, collaboration from families, schools, religious groups, NGOs and health institutions with educated parents and school aged children on the significant risk factors of childhood burns and falls is crucial for reducing such injuries at home.
