Airlines have to use flight simulators to initially train their pilots on the specific type of aircraft and later on to keep them current on this aircraft. The flight simulator market is a small but internationalized market with flight simulators located all around the world. In order to get information about the price and the availability of a simulator, airlines have to contact each company individually preferably via telephone. This procedure is time consuming and in case of time zone differences often not possible. Therefore, a lot of airlines book simulator hours at flight simulator centers which are more expensive but close to the headquarters of the airline. The book includes a review of the business drivers (pull) and technological advances (push) in the industry. By Using Michael Porter s (1980) Five Forces Model, it analysis the impact on the competitive structure in the context of new IT. From these strategies, one can derive the need for technological support (infrastructure and systems) and the organizational impact for each customer and service providers.
