The price pressure for companies in the service-oriented sector is increasing steadily. This fact is well understood in the industrial sector and those in this industry have the option of buying more efficient machines. In the service-oriented industry, as this is not possible, a solution is to improve performance by reducing inefficiency in the processes. To detect the bottle-necks in processes and to improve them, Business Performance Management (BPM) is needed. With such a framework, the risks of implementing the project should be reduced and should therefore attract the needed management attention. This book first reviews the literature and then reports on interviews conducted to assess the open issues in this context. The literature review peruses the definitions of BPM, the technological state of the art, and the existing frameworks. It also discusses how business performance is measured, the possible impact on business of implementing BPM, the available best practices and the requirements for ensuring data security. The literature review investigates the advantages and disadvantages of the process of BPM. With this overview, it is possible to create a big picture of BPM.
