Seit über 30 Jahren gibt es eine neue intensive Beschäftigung mit Leben, Werk und Theologie des Apostels Paulus. Diese internationale Paulusforschung hat zu bedeutenden Änderungen im Paulusbild geführt. Sie betreffen das theologische Profil (hier ist insbesondere die sogenannte New Perspective on Paul zu nennen), aber auch die gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Kontexte, in denen Paulus missioniert und Gemeinden gegründet hat. Von zentraler Bedeutung ist für alle Aspekte des neuen Paulusbildes die Einsicht, dass traditionelle antijüdische Interpretationen unplausibel geworden sind. An ihre Stelle tritt ein Paulus, der auch als Völkermissionar nur auf der Grundlage seiner Identität als Jude und des symbolischen Universums des Judentums seiner Zeit verstanden werden kann.
In diesem Buch wird eine Bilanz der neuen internationalen Paulusforschung gezogen, wobei die neuen Erkenntnisse ebenso wie die traditionellen Lesarten auf dem Prüfstand stehen.

After 30 years a new intensive study on the life, work and theology of the apostle Paul. International research on Paul has led to significant changes in the view on Paul. This includes his theological profile (especially the New Perspective on Paul) but also the social und cultural context in which Paul worked as a missionary and founded communities. Of central importance for all aspects of the new idea of Paul is the comprehension, that traditional anti Jewish interpretations are not plausible any more.
They are replaced by Paul, as a missionary of peoples on the basis of his Jewish identity and within a Jewish environment of his time.
This book provides a synopsis of the new international perspective on Paul, scrutinizing the new finings as well as the traditional interpretations.
