Lutheran anthropology finds its culmination in the description of the Christian as "simul iustus et peccator", being justified and a sinner at the same time. This definition appears lifelike by still perceiving the justified Christian in the fragility of his existence. But it also creates difficulties of comprehension. In face of such a paradoxical speaking, is it still possible to speak clearly of the human being?
From the perspective of Protestant, Catholic and cultural studies, this anthology sheds light on the background and significance of this Reformation formula, traces its cultural effects and examines its potential for the reflection on man today.
