Grey Crawfords Serie El Mirage entstand zwischen 1975 und 1978 in der kalifornischen Mojave Wüste. Die Fotografien zeigen Konstruktionen aus verschiedenen Materialien wie Glas, Stahl und Aluminiumblech: Das Miteinander und der Kontrast von Gewicht und Gleichgewicht demonstrieren die natürliche Schutzlosigkeit der Materialien. El Mirage beschäftigt sich mit der Interaktion des Künstlers mit der Natur und verkörpert den Geist von Performance und Land Art der 1970er-Jahre. Diese bislang unbekannten Fotos, die vor vierzig Jahren entstanden, werden hier erstmals veröffentlicht.

Neben Crawfords Schwarz-Weiß-Fotografien, für die er berühmt ist, enthält El Mirage auch Farbaufnahmen, ein Vorwort von Timothy Persons sowie einen Essay von Lyle Rexer.

Grey Crawford produced his photo series El Mirage from 1975-78; featuring his minimalist structures made of glass and steel, the pictures were taken in the southern Mojave Desert in the American West. These abstract works focus on the artists interventions in nature and architecture, and are being published for the first time.Besides the black-and-white photos that Crawford is famous for, this volume also contains color photography, an introduction by Timothy Persons, and an essay by Lyle Rexer.
